Judy Hallam Greeting Cards
Beautiful Colorful and Giftable
Art Cards by Paso Robles Resident
Judy Pollock Hallam has been an artist for over 50 years. She studied art and art education at Green Mountain College, Vermont, Colorado State University, University of North Florida, as well as the University of Maine, Orono. While she has studied most art forms, watercolor, and colored pencil remain her favorite mediums. They not only allow her to archive cleanliness and vibrancy of color and motion but also allow her to exercise drawing skills. Her artwork has been displayed at the Jacksonville Art Museum, as well as galleries in Bahrain, Great Britain, and numerous galleries here in the United States. However, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1995 and, after a steady decline in strength to hold her pencils or paintbrush, she is presently seeking other avenues of creative expression.
While she is no longer able to "produce " her artwork due to MS, she has found she can still participate in the art world by "reproducing" it.
Despite her disability, Judy was able to become an activist for others by working with the MS Society's Government's Relations Committee. She was also instrumental in getting a law passed in the state of New Hampshire which had fallen through the ADA law making it illegal for anyone to park in the striped lines between handicapped parking. As a part of that law, a disabled driver or their assistant may submit a photograph and a short description of the offending car to the police as evidence. Parking in these areas blocks the individual from entering or exiting their vehicle and therefore interferes with an individual's independence. She was also able to convince several box stores into putting in automatic doors after observing the elderly, disabled, or even mothers with baby carriages having difficulty maneuvering regular store doors. Her mantra became "if you can't get in you can't spend money"! Her local library in New Hampshire, a courthouse, and local mall were also convinced to become accessible as it was difficult for a growing elderly population to navigate the steep steps or heavy doors. Judy worked very hard not to be militant or cause acrimony but to apply persuasion.
